Health coverage in Florida
Florida has the largest Marketplace in the country and one of its widest coverage gaps. Both come from the same decision, so this page explains that decision first.
Has Florida expanded Medicaid?
No. Florida has not expanded Medicaid.
Help with a Marketplace premium starts at 100% of the federal poverty level, and Florida Medicaid covers a narrower group of adults than that.
What is the coverage gap in Florida?
Below 100% of the poverty level, some Florida adults are caught between the two: too much income for Florida Medicaid, too little for help with a Marketplace premium. That band is the coverage gap.
It is not a mistake anyone made. It is the consequence of a state policy decision.
Applying for Florida Medicaid is still worth doing. The rules reach more people than most expect, particularly households with children, someone who is pregnant, or someone with a disability. Community health centres and hospital charity care exist as well, and nobody in this band is out of options.
Who gets the most help in Florida?
Between 100% and 138% of the poverty level. Households in that band get the largest help with the premium the Marketplace offers, plus cost-sharing reductions that lower what you pay when you actually use the plan.
That band exists because Florida did not expand Medicaid. Where Medicaid was widened to 138%, those same households are covered by the state instead and the band is not a Marketplace band at all.
How big is Florida's Marketplace?
CMS counted 1,686,194 new Marketplace consumers in Florida for 2026 — more than any other state in the country.
Can this page tell me which side of the line I am on?
No. It depends on your household size, your exact income and a few other details, and it is not something to guess at.
A licensed agent can go through it with you, and applying for Florida Medicaid is worth doing at the same time. Neither step commits you to anything.
Which parts of Florida do you cover?
All 67 counties. Wherever you are in Florida, your details go to an agent who holds a licence in Florida — that is the only agent this system will route you to.
The county count comes from the US Census Bureau's ZIP-code-to-county relationship file, 2020 geographies.
The other states we work in
The rules are not the same in each one, so each state has its own page.
